Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 7/13/18 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray along with a chihuahua one minute from the rescue by a CPR employee. We suspect they were left for us to find. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Lois has a whole lot of special going on. When found, Lois had heartworms. No sooner did we clear those out of her body than she tore both of her back leg cruciate ligaments. This is the ligament that makes the knee work. Oh and she’s got a cherry eye that was repaired but it pops back out on its own. Lois has has an epulis which is benign proliferative gum tissue often seen in Boxers. It can be removed but may recur over a longer period of time. Weight: Estimated 65 lbs and that is way too much. She needs to be about 50 lbs. She gained a lot of weight during her knee surgeries. Height: 24” at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 Lois is priceless Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Lois is a sweetheart of a girl who got handed the short straw when it comes to medical challenges. Her new owner should understand that and know she will be high maintenance, She could be an only dog or share her home with another laid back big dog. She has not spent much time with little dogs since her buddy the chihuahua was adopted. Her new owner will understand that long walks around the block are not in the cards for Lois. She may enjoy swimming as that would be easy on her knees but we’ve not had her in a pool. What is my personality like? Lois is a young boxer mix who was found as a stray near our rescue in SC. However, we found her owner about a month after Lois was found and the owner, when she found out Lois had heartworms, never came for her. Lois is an incredibly sweet girl, with a gentle soul. She gets along well with other dogs and is in a family grouping with Maude the Great Pyrenees and Rafiki the Standard Poodle. She loves to lay on her couch and relax. She loves laying in the sun on the front porch and watching the world go by, She knows how to sit on command and is motivated by treats to learn more tricks. Lois loves squeaky toys and has been known to steal them and collect them at her place in her space. We don't know how long she was out on the streets and she as shy at first but fast forward 18 months and all the handling fixing her many medical issues and that has changed. To those of us who know and love her, she is beautiful and fabulous. How do I act when I first meet new people? It depends on the person and the place. Lois can be protective of her space. For those she knows and trusts, she is loving and affectionate (and forever hopeful your carrying treats). For those she does not know, you need to be introduced properly or you will not pass her threshold. This may also be pain related as her legs are still not really right. She is overweight and she needs to lose weight to get the pressure off of the, and that’s a slow process with bad bum knees. Other tips and tidbits: Lois was found with the Chihuahua mix, Rio. Rio has been adopted. Lois is truly a rescue. She needs someone who would love a challenge, wants to give a sweet dog a chance, and understands that life is precious. Especially a life affectionately known as Lois House trained? Lois goes outside to do her business here at the farm on our schedule and routine. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet.
